How it started
It all started with…seaweed!
Seaweed is excellent at capturing carbon and can be grown in the world’s largest resource ─ the ocean. It seemed like a good way to help save the world..
So some like-minded experts came together …
…and formed a company ─ Seafields ─ with the aim of building a seaweed farm capable of capturing a gigatonne (1,000,000,000 tonnes) of carbon every year.
But then they were faced with a new challenge ─ how do they distribute all those new carbon credits quickly and simply to help fund the project?
The traditional market is too slow, bureaucratic and full of middlemen…
…so we invented a blockchain-based system that could tokenize and trade carbon credits without the middlemen. Global, accessible and transparent.
JustCarbon was born ─ one of the first blockchain-based carbon credit marketplaces…
We spent the first year self-funded whilst building the foundations of JustCarbon but…it became clear that simply removing the middlemen wasn’t going to be enough. We needed to capture more supply and engage directly in sales.
2023 a new approach for JustCarbon…
…an end-to-end funding pathway for hyper-scale carbon removal projects that benefits everyone!
